Petrol bomb hurled at ex-councillor’s shop

CHENNAI: A man hurled a petrol bomb (Molotov cocktail) at an ice cream parlour owned by a former DMK councillor at Gundumedu near Perungalathur on Friday when there were two employees there. The man then walked back to the shop and hurled it on to the floor and it exploded with a bang. Preliminary inquiries revealed that he could a ganja peddler in the locality who, according to Issac’s statement to police, had visited the ice cream parlour recently and demanded money for Pongal celebrations.A hunt has been launched. The Peerkankaranai police are checking the CCTV camera footage collected from the spot to trace the suspect. No one was injured in the incident, police said.Around 2pm, a police officer said, the suspect left the bomb, a petrol-filled bottle with a wick,at the parlour and lit it.There were some sparks but the bomb did not go off..
