Spectator gored to death by jallikattu bull

VIRALIMALAI: Viralimalai in Tamil Nadu might set a record today for organising a mega jallikattu with the participation of more than 1,000 bulls and over one lakh spectators. But the death of spectator , after being gored by a bull , marred the spirit of the record-setting attempt.The spectator, identified Ramu of Illupur in Pudukkottai district, died on the way to hospital after being gored by a bull. Though elaborate safety and security arrangements had been made, this jallikattu season’s first death happened here.Bull-tamers have been insured, which is said to be a first in the history of jallikattu. Several bulls ran helter-skelter all around the venue. A team from the World Record Union is present at the venue to assess it.Health minister C Vijaya Baskar, who hails from the district, took a special interest in conducting the event in a grand manner..
