TN Budget: Chennai gets major boost for parking

As much as Rs 1,546 crore has been sanctioned for collection and transportation of solid waste in eight zones in two packages. CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu budget , presented in the assembly on Friday by deputy chief minister and finance minister O Panneerselvam , allotted Rs 2,000 crore for improving parking facilities in Chennai.The government has planned a ‘comprehensive integrated parking management project’ for Chennai city by creating underground parking facilities in 20 places, multi-level parking facilities and on-lane smart parking under private-public partnership mode to accommodate two lakh four-wheelers and two lakh two-wheelers. Tamil Nadu Infrastructure fund management cooperation will provide necessary funding support.The Greater Chennai Corporation got a major boost in terms of allocation for infrastructure development as Rs 500 crore has been allotted under Chennai Mega City Development Mission for development of roads, drinking water and sewerage connections.Apart from this, the government has committed to accord sanction Rs 5,259 crore to remediate and reclaim existing landfills in Kodungaiyur and Perungudi and also to set up waste-to-energy plants..
