K Pitchumani appointed MSU vice-chancellor

MADURAI: K Pitchumani has been appointed as vice-chancellor (VC) of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Tirunelveli. At present, he is the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) emeritus scientist at school of chemistry in Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU). Tamil Nadu governor and chancellor of the university Banwarilal Purohit on Thursday appointed him as the VC for a period of three years with effect from the date of assuming the office.Pitchumani will replace K Baskar who has served the university as VC for period of three years from February 2016.According to a press release from Raj Bhavan, Pitchumani has 37 years of teaching experience. He is also a visiting professor at Academy of Sinica, Taipei, and Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan.Pitchumani has authored three books and has more than 190 research papers to his credit.In administrative capacity, he has served as MKU’s registrar in-charge and as chancellor nominee in the syndicate and senate..
