The Madras High Court has restrained the state government and district administration of Nilgiris from felling fully grown trees for the ongoing construction of a government medical college hospital in the hill station on lands that were once leased to Hindustan Photo Films Manufacturing Company (HPFMC).

Then judges put Advocate General (A-G) Vijay Narayan on the task of exploring the possibility of using the already existing building of HPFMC for some allied requirements of the hospital.
They said that even though the company`s current buildings could not be converted into a hospital as prayed for in the present lawsuit by the plaintiff, they could be used as staff quarters for the hospital employees or for other purposes such as a laboratory.
By next month, they needed to hear the government`s position.
However, it was brought to the court`s attention by Additional Solicitor General R.
