Chennai: Hip fractures are a common injury among the elderly but very few undergo surgery at this age. In this case a 98-year-old nonagenarian from Andhra Pradesh who had a right hip joint fracture due to a minor home mishap successfully underwent hip surgery at a hospital in Chennai. The patient was successfully operated upon for hip fracture a procedure which is very rare for a person of this age. The chance of success for patients undergoing surgery (hip replacement) after the age of 75 years is negligible. Hip surgery for a 98-year-old patient during a pandemic is indeed challenging as they are prone to infections because of poor immunity and weak muscles due to minimal immobility..
