SpiceJet Flight En Route To Chennai Goes Missing For More Than An Hour

Officials of the Air Traffic Control(ATC) in Kolkata, were on the edge after a 50 seater SpiceJet flight(SG 7052) destined to Chennai went incommunicado for over an hour.

A SpiceJet aircraft destined to Chennai from Kolkata with 50 passengers lost contact with the Kolkata Airport half an hour after its takeoff.

The communication with the air traffic control (ATC) of Visakhapatnam was restored at around midnight after one and a half hours.

During this time, the aircraft remained missing for about one and a half hours.

According to sources, a SpiceJet aircraft took off from Kolkata`s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at 12:15 pm on Saturday with 50 passengers to Chennai.

The small Q-400 aircraft was flying at an altitude of over 24,000 feet.

ATC suddenly lost radio contact with the aircraft at around 12:48 pm from Bhubaneswar.

After losing contact with the aircraft, ATC tried to communicate with the emergency frequency, but it failed.

Finally, pilots of other aircraft flying around the area were contacted.
