New COVID-19 infections fall below 300 in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, Oct 13 (PTI) After hovering over 300 for the last few days, Tamil Nadu has reported 296 new COVID-19 infections including a returnee from Maharashtra, pushing the tally to 35,88,157, the health department said on Thursday.

There were no fresh fatalities and the death toll remained unchanged at 38,048, a medical bulletin said here.

As many as 353 people recovered from the infection since Wednesday, aggregating to 35,45,820.

There are 4,289 active cases now.

Chennai accounted for the majority of new cases at 74 while the remaining infections were spread across other districts.

Twenty-four districts reported new cases below 10 while Ariyalur, Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, Karur, Theni, Thirupathur, recorded no new cases.

The state capital leads among districts with 2,199 active infections and overall 7,91,663 coronavirus cases.

A total of 11,597 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of tests so far to 6,95,91,567, the bulletin said.
