Summary:

Four state universities have found a place among the top 150 institutions in the QS BRICS ranking this year. Though four public universities from Tamil Nadu have found place among the top 150 universities, the fall in ranks is a pointer to the poor performance of these institutions, say academicians. These include the University of Madras, Anna University, Bharathidasan University and the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. Private universities like VIT, Amrita and SASTRA have found a place among the top 250 institutions. The University of Madras, which was ranked 78 last year, has now dropped to 89th place..
