The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated late president APJ Abdul Kalam`s memorial in Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu.
July 26 was the second death anniversary of the 11th president fondly known as the Missile Man of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated president APJ Abdul Kalam`s memorial in Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu on the second death anniversary of the former president on Wednesday.
Later, Modi will flag off `Kalam Sandesh Vahini`, an exhibition bus which will travel across various states and reach Rashtrapati Bhavan on 15 October, the birth anniversary of the former president.
Modi will then proceed to Mandapam for a public gathering.
He will also distribute sanction letters to the beneficiaries of long liner trawlers under the `Blue Revolution` scheme and also flag off a new express train from Ayodhya to Rameswaram (via video conference).
Modi will release a synopsis of the `Green Rameswaram` project, the statement said.
Modi will unveil a plaque to mark the dedication to the nation of the 9.5-km link road on NH 87, which runs between Mukundarayar, Chathiram and Arichalmunai.

The People`s President
Dr.
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was India`s 11th President and served from July 2002 to July 2007.
Born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu to a poverty stricken family, he went on to study physics and aerospace engineering.
Kalam who narrowly missed becoming a fighter pilot for the Indian Air Force, joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
He was part of famous space scientist Vikram Sarabhai`s Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR).
The `Missile Man` was transferred to ISRO in 1969 where he later developed India`s first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III).
