77-yr-old prisoner dies due to illness

Coimbatore: A 77-year-old murder convict died of asthma-related complications in the Coimbatore Central Prison in the early hours of Wednesday.According to police, K Chinnakalai, who was being treated for asthma at the prison hospital, found it difficult to breath due to a change in weather condition on Tuesday afternoon. The body was sent for postmortem.Chinnakalai, a resident of Rasipuram, was sentenced to life imprisonment in December 2007 for a murder that he had committed in Namakkal in 2006.Meanwhile, human rights activists claimed the number of prison deaths had been on the rise and in the past two months alone as many as four prisoners had died..
