The contractor, Abhay Rautraj from Palakkad , said the contract was for Rs 37 lakh but the company had paid him only Rs 25 lakh to him. He said he could pay the workers only when he received the balance Rs 11 lakh from the company.The workers said they came to Coimbatore in February to work in a steel factory in Ganesapuram. But the contractor said he had not received full payment from the company. “On Monday, the labour department official said they were sending the inspector of factories to the company to understand the situation and get their pending salaries,” said Damodaran. COIMBATORE: Around 45 workers from Odisha , who worked in a private steel casting company here, said they had been starving for the past four days because they had not been paid for the last one and half months.The company said it had paid the contractor who had hired the workers..
