124-year-old city institution bags innovative school award

Coimbatore: The 124-tear-old Coimbatore Cloth Merchant Association (CCMA) Government Girls Higher Secondary School on Raja Street has been selected as innovative school for 2017-2018 by the state government. “Earlier, the strength of the primary section was 143, and now we have improved it to 600,” said Chandrasekaran.The school starts admission as early as April 22, said Chandrasekaran.The school has maintained a pass percentage of over 92%. “Students have scored more than 1,160 in Class XII,” said Chandrasekaran.The school performs well not only in studies, but also in sports. It also has CCTV cameras installed on the campus.The school’s principal is R Moniarasi, who had earlier been a PG physics teacher in the school. “We have a coach exclusively for basketball,” he added.Sanitary facility at the school was one aspect which they worked to achieve high level of maintenance, said Chandrasekaran.“The school has a total of 70 urinals and 40 toilets..
