Corporation to penalise telecom firms that damage pipelines

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has warned telecom companies of stern action if they damage pipelines while digging roads to repair cables.“Orders have been issued to the officials to slap penalty on telecom companies, if pipeline damages are proven to be done by them. “The residents will soon get steady supply of water under the 24/7 drinking water supply project.”The civic body had issued circulars in May to stop unauthorized road digging. We allowed only those companies that were authorized, to carry out the work,” the official added. “Following repeated complaints, the civic body had then stopped all digging work. “We conducted a review meetings and water is supplied to the locality,” the official said, explaining that apart from two to three areas, almost all parts of the city receive water in four to five days..
