300kg of gutka seized in Coimbatore

“During our regular inspection, we noticed that multiple sacks were dislodged from a truck to the godown. COIMBATORE: Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) officials seized about 300 kilograms of banned gutka products, worth over Rs 3 lakh, from a godown in Thomas Street at Townhall here on Monday.Police officials and a team of FSSAI officials headed by its designated officer, B Vijayalalithambigai, was on their regular inspection at Townhall, on Sunday. Upon seeing the inspecting team, a group dislodging the sacks fled the spot,” said Vijayalalithambigai.“We grew suspicious and sealed the godown on Sunday itself and on Monday, along with the police officials, we opened the godown in front of the building owner and found 300 kilograms of banned gutka products,” she said.The gutka products were brought from Bengaluru to sell it to the local retailers in the city, she said, adding that sometimes, the products were, sent to Kerala too.The samples of the seized products were to laboratory to ensure the presence of banned tobacco in it..
