Coimbatore: After replacing sodium-vapour street lights in added areas of the city corporation with LED lamps, the civic body is planning to install the energy-saving lamps in 60 wards in the old corporation limits.The work will commence from January, a senior corporation official said. “After LED street lights were installed at 40 zones of the added areas about four years ago, we could save 42% on power bills,” he told TOI. “LED lamps are expensive than sodium-vapour lamps. “Also, the lifespan of LED lamps is longer than the sodium-vapour lamps.
