Airport staff stage relay hunger strike against privatization bid

Coimbatore: At least 100 non-executive employees with the city airport staged a relay hunger strike from 9am to 6pm on Monday, against the central government’s move to privatise six airports in the country. K Kumar, president of the city chapter of AAEU, said there were 110 non-executive workers at the city airport and around 100 of them had participated in the strike. While the workers, who had done with their shift, staged the protest, others who had their shift reported for work.The relay hunger strike, which is called by the Members of the Airport Authority Employees Union (AAEU), would continue for the next two days. AAEU members said this move would affect the jobs of employees in these airports..
