Medical professionals discuss new developments in anesthesia field

Coimbatore: Around 150 medical professionals from across South India are in the city to discuss recent developments in the field of anesthesia and attend a seminar on dexmedetomidine, a drug popularly used in anesthesia practice, that got under way on Saturday.The medical professionals, who assembled at the Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), mainly discussed dexmedetomidine, a drug which is known to reduce the anxiety of patients. He appreciated the department of anesthesiology for its effort and hoped that anesthesia experts would benefit from the event. It could also be used as a sedative and pain managing drug. The participating professionals are from various parts of the state and Kerala. “It helps patients undergo surgeries without pain and makes them feel comfortable,” said the organizing secretary of the conference, Dr Subbaiah Chelliah, adding, “We expect the seminar to be useful for many anesthesia students.”Dr Nalla G Palaniswami, KMCH chairman, said it was usual for the hospital to periodically conduct conferences and seminars as part of continuing medical education..
