Alagumalai gets ready for jallikattu event

Tirupur: The district is all set to host jallikattu for the second time on February 3. Organisers of the event installed vadi vasal, the narrow entry gate to the venue, at Alagumalai on Friday.State animal husbandry minister K Radhakrishnan inaugurated the installation ceremony in the presence of collector KS Palanisamy. “The organisers have installed two five-feet-high chopped coconut trees on the entry point,” the minister told reporters.“We have set up the bed of the bull ring and also started construction of audience and VIP galleries. So far, 450 bulls and 300 bull tamers, majority of them from southern and central districts, have registered for the event,” said S Palanisamy, president of Alagumalai jallikattu Bulls Welfare Association.The organisers wanted to make sure that the event is as good as those being held in the jallikattu-centric districts.Meanwhile, the rural police have taken steps to provide protection to the event, which was a huge hit during the first edition last year..
