Birdwatchers compete to spot the most number of species

Summary:

By 12 noon many teams had crossed the 100-mark in identifying bird species. Together, the teams identified more than 200 species, said a release by the organizers. The dawn-to-dusk event was followed by a get-together in the evening, where the participants interacted with experienced birders in the city.A total of 25 teams from the city and surrounding areas participated in the race, which began at 6am. Coimbatore: Birdwatchers from the city on Sunday picked up their binoculars and cameras to participate in a race to spot as many birds as possible in the day.Organized by the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) and Salim Ali Naturalist Forum (SANF), the event titled Coimbatore Bird Race saw both experienced and budding birdwatchers spotting and identifying birds to record as many species as possible..
