NMR weekend special a hit, earns Rs 34L in less than a year

Data accessed by TOI shows that the NMR has earned Rs 34.25 lakh from this weekend special service from March 31, 2018 till date. “It will not only provide a unique NMR experience to travellers but also help railways earn more revenue,” said an activist. The Ooty-Ketti special train service, which was launched last June, has fetched Rs 8.3 lakh so far, while the NMR regular service on average earns Rs 9,700 a day.The regular service includes a trip from Mettupalayam to Coonoor, Coonoor to Ooty, Coonor to Mettupalayam and a couple of trips between Ooty and Coonoor. “While the first-class ticket is priced at Rs 250 and second-class ticket costs only Rs 25-Rs 30,” said a railway official.Heritage rail activists had long been demanding introduction of special tourist and sightseeing trains. “This way, we got another 46 passengers, who had to spend another two hours at the station, to take the 9.10am train.”The railway has earned Rs 80,345 from the trip..
