Forest department to issue compensation for crops damaged by Chinna Thambi, says animal husbandry minister

TIRUPUR: The state government is taking steps to provide compensation to damages done to crops by wild elephant Chinna Thambi, animal husbandry minister K Radhakrishnan said here on Sunday. “Following capture of Chinna Thambi after its fortnight sojourn, it was safely shifted to Varakaliyar elephant camp near Topslip.Many people have raised complaints about crop damages. The forest department is taking steps to assess the damages and will soon provide proper compensation,” he said after flagging off 16 new Tamil Nadu state transport corporation (Tnstc) buses in the city.The Tirupur Government Veterinary Hospital at Nachipalayam has been upgraded as a poly clinic and it will function round-the-clock, the minister said..
