Quality of life will improve within 5yrs, says outgoing city corpn commissioner

Coimbatore: Denizens will enjoy a better quality of life within four to five years as the city corporation would have completed some of its major projects by that time, outgoing city corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan said here on Monday. The 2011 batch IAS officer, who was the 23rd commissioner of the civic body , had took charge in November 2014. The plan to decentralise solid waste management is now a reality and a few years later, the crisis at Vellalore dump yard will end. Similarly, UGD project under JNNURM scheme is being executed in 60 wards and the project under AMRUT scheme is implemented in the added areas.When he took charge, the UGD project was only half-way through and the city had no water schemes, Vijayakarthikeyan said. Encroachments in the lakes including Valankulam, Periyakulam and Raja vaikal water channel have been removed and the encroachers were relocated to the houses built by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board,” he added..
