Engineering student on bike hit by speeding car, injured

Coimbatore: A 24-year-old engineering student has been hospitalised after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car driven by a 21-year-old girl student on Wednesday evening.K Balaji, a native of Thanjavur and a final year PG student in a government-aided engineering college on Avinashi Road, had stopped the two-wheeler near Codissia seeing the speeding car, police sources said. “But Dharshana Ruth from SIDCO near Sundarapuram, a II-year Master of International Business student in a private college on Avinashi Road, who was behind the wheel, could not stop it. Balaji was thrown off from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries,” a police officer said.Instead of stopping the vehicle and helping the injured man, Dharshana sped away from the spot. “She was on the way to a mall along with a friend when the accident happened,” the officer added.Balaji was undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
