Summary:

Ponds such as those at Vilvamara kuttai in the range are filed by borewells,” said E N Manoharan, forest range officer of Sirumugai range. The artificial ponds and water troughs were created in the range several years ago. To tackle this, officials of the Sirumugai forest range near the city have started creating artificial ponds and filling the existing water troughs and ponds to provide water for animals.Officials of the Sirumugai forest range said they had hired water tankers to fill water in some of the water troughs and ponds in the range, while some of the ponds get filled through borewells. He said they work on creating the pond would be complete in 10 days.In summer, animals such as elephants and deer usually travel to the Bhavanisagar Dam area, he said. If there are other animals in the area, they would benefit from the water sources created by the forest officials, he said.Officials of the Boluvampatti forest range said as the range had abundant water resources as it was near the Siruvani, they had not issues with water for animals in summer. The range officials were planning to create another artificial pond inside the forest near the Western Ghats, said Manoharan.“We would construct the pond near a river in the region and the setup would be such that the pond would be filled by water from the river,” said Manoharan..
