Four labourers from Bihar rescued

Tirupur: The Tirupur district administration is conducting a probe into the allegations by four men from Bihar that they were treated as bonded labourers at a coir pith unit near Kangeyam in Tirupur district.The issue came to light after six people, including three teenagers, were intercepted at Chennai Central railway station by Childline officials last week. Further investigations were on. The men alleged that they had been denied proper wages.They had not been allowed to leave the workplace, where they had been given accommodation and food, said R Karuppasamy of READ, a non-governmental organization.While the teenagers were sent to a government-recognized home in Chennai, the other three were taken back to the unit on Friday.Officials, led by Dharapuram sub-collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar, were conducting inquiries for the last three days.Meanwhile, another man from Bihar who was working in the unit said he too had been treated as a bonded labourer..
