Coimbatore: Residents and activists have raised concerns about the road-widening work and the construction of the proposed flyover at Kavundampalayam, which, they said, had been taken up without removing encroachments on Mettupalayam Road. They would deploy surveyors who would measure and mark the encroachments which would be then removed,” said the official.Meanwhile, the official said the construction works would begin in a week. “We would take up preliminary work for constructing pillars on the centre of the road and as it progresses, alternative routes for traffic would be arranged,” he said.A total of three flyovers are set to come up on Mettupalayam Road: at Kavundampalayam, G N Mills and Perianaickenpalayam. “We have asked the district administration to fix the issue. However officials said they would survey the area for encroachments, mark them and remove them systematically.Residents said several commercial establishments and pavement shops had come up on the stretch between Kavundampalayam and NGGO Colony of the Mettupalayam Road (NH67) and shrank the road’s width.“There are encroachments by pavement shops near areas such as Sanganoor and also the front portion of some commercial establishments had eaten into the road..
