Coimbatore: A 60-year-old woman, along with her son, caught a woman who stole her purse, which had a gold chain weighing five sovereigns, and handed her over to police on Tuesday.Police identified the accused as Anitha Devi, a resident of Karamadai. “Devi and Rammathal, 60, a resident of Rathinapuri, were travelling in a same bus on Tuesday morning. The police recovered the jewellery from her.Devi was produced before a judicial magistrate and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison. Later, Rammathal and her son handed over the accused to the Race Course police.During preliminary questioning, police found that Devi was wanted by the Kattoor police in connection with two theft cases in which she stole gold jewellery weighing 7.5 sovereigns from two other people. When they got down at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) stop, Rammathal, who was with her son, found that her purse kept in a bag was missing, and saw Devi walking away with a purse,” said a police officer.Rammathal, along with her son, got hold of Devi, checked the purse and found it to be hers, the officer said..
