Coimbatore is facing a severe shortage of Covaxin vaccines, due to which the recipients would have to wait longer to get their second dose.

The situation is so bad that vaccine stocks have dried up in all the private hospitals of the Coimbatore district, even government institutions have suspended vaccination sessions due to the shortage.

Sources said none of the private hospitals in Coimbatore hosted a vaccination drive since May 1.

A spokesperson of a private hospital while talking to a leading media newspaper said `Since we are not getting vaccines from the Health Department since April 30, we have closed the vaccination centre.

Now we are asking them to approach government-run vaccination centres.

People, who had taken their first shot of Covaxin, are suffering the most as they are unable to find it in government-run centres too`.

The district received 12000 doses of Covishield on Saturday, which were administered to recipients on Monday.
