Coimbatore logs 3,243 fresh cases, records highest positivity rate in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore district added 3243 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Friday, pushing the active cases tally past the 29,000 mark to 29,345.

The district`s total cases tally has mounted to 1,31,774.

The district`s cumulative death toll stands at 967 after 25 more people succumbed to the virus in the last few days.

This is the highest-ever single-day toll the district has recorded so far.

Coimbatore district saw the recovery of 2,244 patients in a single day, a total of 1,01,432 patients have been recovered to date.

The recovery rate has fallen to a new low of 76.99%.

The test positivity rate is at an all-time high of 29.9% in the entire state, While Chennai’s highest test positivity rate was 23.1% last week.

As per the data available with the health department, the test positivity rate was only 11.2% in the district during the seven-day period from April 22 to 28.

It gradually rose to 16.7% from April 29 to May 5, and then to 25.7% from May 6 to 12, before climbing to 29.9% lately.

Tamil Nadu reported 36,184 new cases and 469 deaths on Friday.

Chennai reported 5,913 new cases on Friday, while 109 people succumbed to COvid-19 in the state capital.
