Summary:

Coimbatore, Sept 24 (PTI): Over 300 personnel of the Forest Department and Annamalai Tiger Reserve in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu on Friday kept off work in protest against the arrest of a forest range officer based on a complaint from a court official, police said.

On Thursday, the police said they arrested K Jayachandran, subsequently remanded in judicial custody, for allegedly misbehaving with three people, including the son of a high court judge.

Seeking the release of the officer, the forest personnel went on strike.

Police said Jayachandran, reportedly drunk, went to a guest house in Sirukundra late Tuesday and misbehaved with the three seated outside the bungalow.

The forest officer asked them to not sit outside as there were wild elephants moving about.

This led to an argument between him and the trio leading to the alleged high-handedness of the range officer, the police added.
