PIL in Orissa HC seeking preservation of Konark temple

CUTTACK: A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in Orissa high court seeking protection and preservation of the heritage site Konark sun temple A social worker Achutananda Swain has moved high court alleging that Archeological Survey of India(ASI) , state government and Puri administration has clearly failed in maintaining the structure properly. Tourists visiting the world famous site are seen having a tough time negotiating in the knee deep water while moving around the structure. Due to negligence of the authorities the heritage site is facing serious threat.The petitioner has alleged that with few lashes of rain the sun temple premises get submerged in rain water. Last week also the Konark Sun temple faced similar water logging situation but no measures were taken by the authorities to flush out the rainwater.The petitioner has alleged that water logging has become a perennial problem at the Konark Sun temple but the authorities have turned a blind eye towards it. “The petition is likely to be taken up for hearing next week,” said petitioner’s counsel, Antarjyami Swain..
