Retired Odisha Administrative Service officer convicted in corruption case

CUTTACK: Special vigilance court in Baripada on Monday convicted a retired OAS ( Odisha Administrative Service ) officer, Bansidhar Naik in a corruption case and awarded him one and half years of rigorous imprisonment.The court has also directed Naik to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh. He will also have to undergo imprisonment for one and half years and will have to pay fine of Rs 1.5 lakh. The court has also convicted Ajit Dalei, owner of SAN Enterprises for committing cheating. Vigilance officials said Naik during his posting in Mayurbhanj district as district project coordinator of Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan, had purchased fire extinguishers for official purpose from an agency SAN enterprises at higher rates causing loss to the government.A corruption case was lodged against him by vigilance in 2010 and subsequently chargesheet was filed in the matter..
