HC asks accused to appear in court today

NAINITAL: The Uttarakhand high court on Tuesday directed Sudhir Chawla, an accused in the alleged NH-74 scam, to personally appear in court on Wednesday. Earlier this month, the duo had approached the high court seeking a stay on their arrest.In the petition, the duo has claimed that the special investigation team (SIT) probing the alleged scam has deliberately included their names in the case. The direction came while hearing a petition filed by Chawla and Priya Sharma, another accused in the case, seeking a stay on their arrest.While Sharma is a builder based in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar, Chawla is her business partner.Sharma, the managing director of Alliance Plus Infra Pvt Ltd and Panchvati Colony, was booked along with Chawla on charges of forgery. According to a complaint lodged by Rudrapur circle officer (CO) Swatantra Kumar Singh, who is heading the SIT, on January 27, both Priya Sharma and her partner Sudhir Chawla prepared forged documents to obtain a compensation of Rs 23 crore from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).The case was registered after tracking the money trail of one Jeeshan Ahmad, another accused in the alleged scam..
