Sadhus demand legal rights to stay in Gangotri National Park

Those 150 sadhus covered under survey must be given legal rights to stay in GNP under Forest Rights Act, 2006 (FRA). They have long been demanding for legal rights to stay and have now become hopeful of getting so under the BJP regime. DEHRADUN : A delegation of sadhus led by president of sadhu sabha , Mahamandleshwar of Juna Akhara and member, sadhvi Panchchi Prakashmayi, niece of former president Pranab Mukherjee met district magistrate, Uttarkashi to demand legal rights of their stay in Gangotri National Park . Sadhus who have been living in the forest areas from ancient time are part of forest just like flora and fauna. Bharti had stated that it was during the Congress regime in the Centre, the then environment minister Jairam Ramesh had evicted lot of sadhus from the Gangotri National Park.“Our long struggle to demand legalization of our stay in forest areas is finally coming to end..
