After Almora, Rudraprayag to get Hill Patrol Unit

Dehradun: After the launch of Hill Patrol Unit (HPU) in Almora last week, Rudraprayag district is also going to get its own motorcycle-borne HPU ahead of Char Dham yatra.The units would be flagged off by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Monday in the presence of senior police officers, including director general of police (DGP) Anil Raturi and additional director general of police (ADG) law and order Ashok Kumar.According to Prahalad Narayan Meena, superintendent of police (SP) Rudraprayag, “Rudraprayag will be the first hill district in Garhwal region to get HPU. Besides, managing traffic during yatra season, the mobile units will also act as first responder at the time of natural disaster.”Meena added that the units are going to play a very important role in the forthcoming yatra season and ensure that pilgrims don’t face any trouble. “We are going to deploy 15 units across the district with each motorcycle borne unit covering a stretch of 5-6 km,” the SP said.Automobile manufacturing company Hero Motocrop has provided the bikes to Rudraprayag district for HPU under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).Incidentally, on the lines of City Patrol Unit, which are currently operational in six cities, police department in February this year announced to launch HPU for the hill districts.The ADG said, “Following the success of CPU in the plains, the police department had decided to start HPU in hill districts for traffic management, curbing road accidents and acting as first responder during disasters.”.
