Summary:

Nainital: The Uttarakhand high court on Wednesday slapped a fine of Rs 5 lakh on a private firm which dug up roads to lay optical fibre cables but failed to complete the project on time. The court was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking to declare Nainital an eco-sensitive zone. The bench observed that dug-up roads had created nuisance for the public and penalized the firm for missing its project deadline of March 31.The district administration also informed the court that parking at the premises of Hindustan Machine Tools factory in Ranibagh, Haldwani, has been made functional with space to accommodate 500 to 600 vehicles while another one will be operational near Narayan Nagar, seven km from Nainital town in a week. The HC also decided to keep “in abeyance” its order dated July 3, 2017, which had directed the Nainital district administration to seal hotels, guesthouses and homestays that do not have sufficient space for parking..
