Forest fires rage in Garhwal & Kumaon, 70 hectares lost in 2 days

The forest fire in Srinagar in Pauri Garhwal reached the campus of Government Medical College in Shikot near Srinagar on Sunday. “The main cause of the fires was negligence on part of people who had lit a fire in or near the forest area. Till now, as per data collated by the forest department, there have been 707 cases of forest fire affecting 1146.51 hectares and resulting in loss of Rs 19.90 lakh.
