Uttarakhand set to play in upcoming Ranji Trophy after 18 years

Dehradun: Eighteen years since the formation of the state, Uttarakhand is set to make its debut in the upcoming 85th season of the Ranji Trophy after the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) on Monday formed a nine-member committee to oversee cricketing affairs in the state. The board has been asking the associations to sort out their differences to attain the affiliation. The tenure of the committee will be one year or till the time a final decision on affiliation with BCCI is taken.The nine-member body comprises six members from different cricket associations in Uttarakhand, one nominee from the state government as it currently owns the international stadium in Dehradun, and two nominees from BCCI.The committee was announced after the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators of BCCI held a meeting with the different cricket associations in Uttarakhand on June 18.Hailing the formation of the committee, PC Verma secretary of Cricket Association of Uttarakhand said, “It’s a good news for the players as with the formation of the consensus committee, Uttarakhand will be allowed to play in Ranji and other domestic cricket tournaments from now.”It is to be noted that BCCI has been reluctant in according affiliation to Uttarakhand due to continuous infighting between various cricket associations in the state..
