Dehradun: After heavy rains in the past 24 hours, most of the rivers in the state are flowing close to the danger level striking fear among resident of low lying areas.At Haridwar, Ganga was flowing at 291.40m while its danger level is 294. “Government schools and colleges have been turned into temporary shelters and ration as well as medicines has been procured for emergency,” he said. In Pithoragarh, Kaali, Saryu and Gori rivers were just a metre below the danger level whereas a school had to be evacuated because Ramganga river was above the danger level.In Chamoli district, Alaknanda and Mandakini were three metres down the danger mark. In Dehradun too, catchment area of seasonal rivers Rispana and Bindal were inundated and around 3,000 colony residents are being rehabilitated.DK Lohani, deputy secretary to chief minister, said, “The rivers are below the danger level but as the met department has predicted heavy rainfall, if flood like situation arises the resident of low lying areas will be moved to shelters.”Lohani added that basic amenities have been made available in the temporary shelters and the affected people will be rehabilitated in case of emergency..
