Father unable to pay fee Uttarakhand HC directs school to admit child

NAINITAL: The Uttarakhand high court has directed a school in Udham Singh Nagar district to allow a student in class 10 whose father was able to pay only a portion of the pending school fee to attend classes. The school, which is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), had stopped the child from attending classes after the father was unable to pay school fee.Kalka Prasad, who runs a small grocery shop, told TOI, “I had to deposit a pending fee of Rs 18,000 out of which I was able to manage Rs 5,000, but the school stopped my son from taking classes after February.”The petition was filed by the student in June stating that he would pay half of the fee immediately and the rest within three months. The fee of the school is Rs 1,450 per month.The single bench of justice Sudhanshu Dhuliya said, “Considering that it is the matter of a student and what is at stake is the academic career of the petitioner, an interim mandamus is hereby issued directing the school to give admission to the petitioner and allow him to attend the class, in case, petitioner deposits at least half of the outstanding fee.”The court in its order dated July 9 added that the petitioner would have to give an undertaking that the fee would be deposited within three months..
