Rain washes away many of 1 Lakh pits dug to plant saplings

Dehradun: The district administration is in a fix after many of the one lakh pits dug for a plantation drive this week were washed away in heavy rain. More than 2.7 lakh pits are to be dug up for the drive. The administration had dug over a lakh such pits but debris and muck have filled them up after the rain.City magistrate Manoj Goyal said, “Yes, some pits have been washed away in the rain. The saplings will be provided by the administration and the forest department.” The pits, about half a feet deep, were dug for Rispana Rejuvenation drive, a pet project of CM Trivendra Singh Rawat.The massive drive is to be launched on July 22 and aims to rejuvenate the river by planting trees on its banks..
