Pilgrims stranded as Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri highways blocked for hours

Uttarkashi: Char Dham pilgrims were stranded for hours at Badrinath Gangotri and Yamunotri highways after landslides triggered by heavy rain on Monday.While Badrinath highway was blocked for some time at Lambagad, Pipalkoti and Gauchar due to heavy rain, Gangotri and Yamunotri highways also remained blocked for hours. The Yamunotri highway was blocked at Ojari-Dabarkot and Rana Chatti-Badiya regions on Monday and opened after 5pm.District disaster management officer (Uttarkashi) Devendra Patwal said, “Both Gangotri and Yamunotri highway are now open for traffic.” Over 500 pilgrims were stranded at Gangotri and Yamunotri highway in Uttarkashi district.The Border Roads Organization and the National Highways Authority of India cleared the stretches within a few hours.According to the disaster management department, Gangotri National Highway was blocked due to a landslide at Nalupani, Raturisera and Pakoda Nala regions after heavy rain on Sunday night..
