Four BRO labourers buried alive in Chamoli landslide

Dehradun: Two people, including a woman and a two-year-old, were killed and two more are feared dead after they were buried alive in a landslide triggered by a cloudburst in Bhapkund, 50km from district headquarters Joshimath in Chamoli district, on Friday.The cloudburst occurred at 5.30am when the victims who were engaged in construction work carried out by Border Roads Organization ( BRO ) were sleeping in their tent.After receiving information, rescue teams comprising BRO, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations.“The rescue teams have recovered two bodies that of a woman and a child from the debris while efforts are on to locate two more people trapped under the debris,” said Nand Kishore Joshi, district disaster management officer of Chamoli.The deceased have been identified as Tulsa Devi (36) and Sunil (2) both natives of Nepal, while the identity of the other two is yet to be ascertained, said an official.Cloudbursts had wreaked havoc in Tharali and Ghat blocks of Chamoli district last week causing widespread damage to houses, shops and roads..
