First organ harvesting in Doon military hospital

DEHRADUN: A team of doctors and paramedics of the Armed Forces from Military Hospital, Dehradun and Army Hospital (Research & Referral) Delhi Cantonment recently conducted first organ harvesting in Dehradun Military hospital.A serving soldier was declared brain dead at Dehradun Military Hospital on August 24. We hope the trend of donating organs becomes a regular process across the country.” A specialised transplant team from Army Hospital in Delhi rushed to Dehradun by Indian Air Force aircraft and harvested the kidneys, liver and eyes of the patient.The organs along with the transplant team were moved to Jolly Grant Airport by a dedicated green corridor established by the city traffic police and was flown to Delhi.The harvested organs were transplanted to three patients and visions of two patients were restored at the Delhi Army Hospital.Brigadier A K Sood, commandant of Dehradun Military Hospital, said, “The entire team of professionals worked closely to make the transplant a success..
