Summary:

Dehradun: With four days left to go for nagar nigam’s deadline to remove all encroachments in Dehradun, 4,000 illegal establishments are still standing in the city. Nodal officer for implementing the high court’s order and additional chief secretary Om Prakash had said that the city would be cleared of all encroachments within 15 days after a megadrive in Premnagar on September 14.But no demolition exercise has been undertaken since the one in Premnagar, civic officials said, admitting that it seemed unlikely that the September 29 deadline to remove encroachments would be met.“It took the civic body three months to remove 5,000 encroachments, so it is not possible to clear 4,000 of them in just a few days,” said the official.Another nagar nigam official said that a large chunk of the labour force was involved in clearing the debris from Premnagar so further demolition could not be undertaken..
