Complete widening work of NH-58 in 6 months: Uttrakhand high court to Centre

NAINITAL: The Uttarakhand high court on Friday directed the Centre to complete within six months the widening of National Highway-58, which links UP’s Ghaziabad with Badrinath and Mana Pass in Uttarakhand. The court was hearing a petition filed by one Akhtar Malik, alleging delay in completion of the highway leading to traffic jams and accidents. The petition was filed in June this year.The division bench of acting Chief Justice Rajiv Sharma and Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari asked the Centre to also complete all the flyovers, underpasses, railway underpasses and bridges on the NH-58.The court also directed various measures to decongest traffic on NH-58, including diversion of vehicles coming from Moradabad-Bijnor-Najibabad from NH-74 through Neeldhara.The bench also directed the civic body of Haridwar and Roorkee to ensure that no-objection certificates are issued for construction of buildings only after prior verification from the traffic police department, so that the roads are not congested.The court also directed to install traffic signals at Ranipur and Shankaracharaya crossings within three months for better traffic management..
