Timber smugglers try to run over forest official with mini truck

Nainital: In a daring attack in Bailparav area of Ramnagar forest division, a vehicle with illegally procured timber tried to run over a state forest department employee, late on Tuesday evening.The forest department team signaled the vehicle to stop, suspecting that the vehicle was going without a permit.Munshiram Prajapati, the official who tried to stop the vehicle, saved his life by immediately diving out of the vehicle’s way. A case has been registered while police are investigating the matter.Parag Madhukar Sakate, conservator of forests, western circle, Kumaon division, said, "We have complained to the police and search for the driver is on. Police is also looking for the owner of the vehicle.”Earlier in October, this year, in another attack on state forest department official, few men carrying illegally mined river-bed material in a mini truck tried to run over a forester in Ramnagar area of Nainital district.In June 2018, a team was attacked when they tried to stop a vehicle carrying illegally chopped tree logs.Another incident of attack on forest department officials occurred on March 27, 2017 in which miscreants tried to scare off the team from the department by firing gun shots in the air.On May 16, 2017, a team from the department was attacked in Ramnagar.On March 15, 2017, illegal miners fired on a team but no one was injured while on September 27, 2017, a team was attacked in Kosi river bed while inspecting to check illegal mining.On November 12, 2017, beat watchers were attacked on a mining gate of Gaula river.On December 18, 2017, forest department officials were injured in stone pelting incident while on February 18, 2018 forest guards were beaten up by men trying to ferry illegally mined river bed material..
