Rs 25 cr in demonetized notes seized in US Nagar 2 held

Rudrapur: Udham Singh Nagar police have seized demonetized currency amounting to Rs 2.5 crore in Kundeshwari in Kashipur on Monday. The scrapped notes were in the denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, said Chanchal Sharma, SHO of Kashipur police station. Police have also impounded a car used by the accused.Acting on a tip-off, Kashipur police raided a property dealer’s office at IIM Road in Kundeshwari and seized the defunct notes. Two people have also been arrested while two of their accomplices managed to flee. The arrested duo have been identified as Kunwar Singh Bisht, a resident of Kundeshwari, and Brijesh Dimri, a resident of Muni-Ki-Reti in Tehri Garhwal district.“Two people, Guruprem Singh and Ranjeet Singh, both residents of Kundeshwari, are on the run,” said the SHO.The accused have been booked under sections 420 (forgery), 511 (attempt to commit an offence) of the IPC and section 102 (suspected to have been stolen property) of the CrPC and 5/7 Specialised Bank Notes Act..
