Forest Fire Alert System 3.0 launched

Dehradun: A two-day pre-fire season workshop on forest fires conducted by Forest Survey of India (FSI) started here on Wednesday. The event is aimed at sensitising nodal officers across Uttarakhand regarding the monitoring of forest fires across the country.Harak Singh Rawat, minister of forest and environment, government of Uttarakhand, inaugurated the workshop by launching the FSI Forest Fire Alert System version 3.0 which has features like large-scale forest fire monitoring programme based on satellite sensor (SNPP-VIIRS) to automatically identify and track large-scale forest fires and Geoportal to view forest fire related data along with other thematic layers.Sushant Sharma, joint director, FSI, told TOI that the new version of FSI’s fire alert system also includes web map service available for integration to state forest departments.
